The Oxford Band Shell
The Borough of Oxford Pennsylvania has the ambition to become the area's Center for the Arts. To that end, they have been commissioning public murals, organizing a Music & Arts Festival called the Connective Festival and investigating possibilities for new public works.
As part of the development of the Borough to achieve a regional reputation, one investigation is to build a new band shell in the Oxford Memorial Park.
Architect Ed Rahme was asked to study the design and proposed a concept to further the Town's mission; A band shell that is itself a work of art. Ed has been talking to local artists with the hope that each piece and part of the the structure can be works of art. As an example, steel connectors that tie the trusses to the walls could be treated as gargoyles - to ward off the evil spirits questioning the importance of the arts.
